Video transcript

Your lender has asked for independent legal advice. That means a solicitor with no connection to your lender explains the document before you sign it. We meet for a thirty-minute appointment, and your signed certificate is emailed the same working day. Fixed fees from £150.

Booking online

Choose the service that matches what your lender has asked for, say how many people need advice, and pick an appointment time from the live diary. Each time is priced as you see it. The sooner you need to be seen, the higher the fee, so there is no separate service level to work out. Payment is taken securely by card when you book, and your confirmation email arrives straight away with everything you need.

Verifying your identity

Before your appointment we verify your identity using secure online ID verification. You photograph your passport or driving licence and take a quick selfie from your phone. It takes around two minutes and means your certificate can't be challenged on identity grounds. You'll also get a private appointment page holding your join link, the documents we need, and two quick questions about what your lender requires: whether they'll accept our standard certificate, and whether they need a wet-ink signature. If you don't know the answers, the page gives you the exact wording to forward to your solicitor.

Your video appointment

Your adviser joins you on a secure video call at your booked time. They will already have reviewed the document you've been asked to sign. They'll explain what it means in plain English, set out the risks and obligations, answer your questions and check you're signing freely, without pressure from anyone. That part is private: you take the call on your own. If your document has to be witnessed — usually the case when it is signed as a deed — an independent adult witness joins you on camera for the last few minutes to watch you sign and to counter-sign. Your witness can't be the other party, a relative, your broker or your solicitor. Not every document needs one, so ask us if you are not sure.

Your certificate

Once your adviser is satisfied you understand the document, we prepare and sign your certificate of independent legal advice, on our standard form or your lender's own form. It's emailed to you the same working day as your appointment, whichever service you booked, and sent straight to your solicitor, broker or lender if you wish.
